Some attendees to the Toronto Adventist World Session have saved their money for five years in order to travel to the conference. The cost of traveling to the conference is not always the same for each attendee, and is particularly high for those from countries where wage rates are low. Yet still they come.
“There is a group of 45 people from Brazil who have saved their money for the past five years in order to attend this General Conference,” said Jael Eneas de Aravjo, Communication Director of the North Brazil Union Mission. “The people have a concept and vision of the General Conference meetings as the most important thing in the church. Through the meetings, we gain a better idea of the world church, alive, in colors.”
Erton Carlos Kohler, Communication Director of the Northeast Brazilian Union Mission, cited three reasons why people make this great sacrifice to attend the General Conference session. “Firstly, people love the church, and have a dream to see the world church. This is fulfilled at the General Conference,” said Kohler. “Secondly, parents bring their children to learn to serve and love the church better. Finally, this is an opportunity for travel, with a productive purpose.” |
