An influx of 60,000 delegates, visitors, families and friends into Toronto requires a lot of extra food!
“We have sold 56,000 meal tickets as of Monday evening, and 46,000 of those have already been redeemed,” said Tim Lilleyman, Director of Food and Beverages for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. “We have dining rooms set up for 7,000 people and have enough food to feed over 200,000 during the Session.”
Ticket sales, however, have been considerably lower than expected. “We are encouraging people to buy meal tickets,” said Lilleyman. “Last Sabbath we fed 16,500 people–fewer than expected. We are anticipating and preparing for many more this coming Sabbath.”
To feed so many people requires many assistants. “We have 170 staff to serve the meals and a kitchen staff of 36,” said Lilleyman. “Seven tractor-trailer loads of food have been purchased.” [Danielle Lee] |
